Synopsis

Season 2 picks up right after Amane Fujimiya and Mahiru Shiina finally became a couple following their high school's sports festival. The awkward, slow-burn "will they, won't they" tension of the first season is gone, but a new kind of nervousness takes its place, the kind that comes from two introverted, love-starved people trying to figure out how to actually be in a relationship.

Between homemade meals, a summer festival date in yukata, a school culture festival, and quiet evenings spent at each other's apartments, Amane and Mahiru's new "almost married couple" routine looks sweet from the outside. Underneath it, though, both of them are still working through the loneliness and family baggage that shaped who they are, and season 2 leans into that, letting them lean on each other to face pieces of their pasts they'd rather have avoided.

The wider circle around them also gets more screen time this season, from their close friends Itsuki and Chitose to new faces pulled into their orbit, as the show keeps its focus on small, sincere moments of connection rather than big dramatic turns.

Our Thoughts / Our Verdict

Season 2 takes everything that made the first season charming and turns the warmth up another notch. Watching Amane and Mahiru navigate an actual relationship, instead of tiptoeing around their feelings, gives the show a different, cozier flavor without losing the shy, heartfelt energy that made people fall for them in the first place.

The animation holds up noticeably better than season 1 in its steadier moments, and the new episodes lean into festival dates, home-cooked dinners, and quiet vulnerability in a way that rewards viewers who stuck with the couple from the start. Supporting characters like Chitose and Itsuki also get more room to shine this time around.

If you loved the slow-burn setup of season 1, season 2 is a very satisfying, comfort-watch continuation — less about "will they," more about "how do two lonely people learn to actually let each other in." — Chief Editor
