The Apothecary Diaries
Anime Info
Synopsis
Maomao once lived a quiet life as an apothecary's daughter, until she was kidnapped and sold into servitude at the imperial rear palace. Using the medical and herbal knowledge her father taught her, she quietly does her job as a lowly servant — until a string of mysterious "curses" among the imperial consorts and their infants catches her attention, and she can't help but investigate.
Her sharp deductions draw the notice of Jinshi, a striking young eunuch official, who pulls her out of the laundry room and into palace intrigue as his own personal problem-solver.

Our Review
The Apothecary Diaries earns its reputation as one of the best mystery anime in years — Maomao's cool, deductive mind carries the show even in episodes with no action at all, and the palace intrigue never feels padded out.
OLM and TOHO animation STUDIO give the imperial setting a genuinely gorgeous, painterly look, and the slow-burn dynamic between Maomao and Jinshi is written with more restraint and wit than most isekai romances manage.
A must-watch if you want something smarter and slower-paced than the usual seasonal lineup — this is one of the rare shows where the mystery-of-the-week format never gets old. — DIDARUL ISLAM [Chief Editor]
