The Ogre's Bride
Anime Info
Synopsis
The Ogre's Bride is set in a version of Japan where humans and ayakashi, a class of powerful supernatural beings, live side by side. The strongest ayakashi can sense their destined "bride" among human women, and being chosen for that role is seen as a rare honor that brings both prosperity and devoted love.
Our heroine, Yuzu Shinonome, is anything but lucky in that department. She's an ordinary high schooler who has spent her whole life overshadowed by her younger sister Karin, the bride of a fox spirit, while her own family barely seems to notice her. Between a neglectful household and a boyfriend who falls for her sister instead, Yuzu's day-to-day life is rough, and things eventually boil over into a painful family confrontation that leaves her hurt and alone.
Right when she has nowhere left to turn, Yuzu crosses paths with Reiya Kiryuin, the next head of the powerful Kiryuin ogre clan. To her shock, he claims her as his long-awaited bride, and the show follows how that sudden, almost fairy-tale twist slowly starts to change Yuzu's world for the better.

Our Review
The Ogre's Bride is still airing, so we're holding off on a final score for now instead of guessing where the story is headed.
What we can say so far: it's a cozy, well-cast take on the "ayakashi Cinderella" romance formula, with Saori Hayami and Yūichirō Umehara giving grounded performances as Yuzu and Reiya. The early episodes lean hard into Yuzu's rough home life, which makes her rescue by Reiya land as a genuine relief rather than just a fantasy trope.
We'll come back and fill in real scores once more of the season has aired, so check back for our updated verdict.
