Synopsis

Yusuke Yotsuya is a cynical, deeply introverted third-year middle schooler who'd honestly rather be left alone. That preference gets thrown out the window when he's suddenly summoned, along with two classmates, Iu Shindo and Kusue Hakozaki, into a mysterious game-like parallel world.

There, a being calling itself the Game Master hands the trio a quest: survive, or the consequences ripple all the way back to their world. Iu becomes a Magician, Kusue a Warrior, and Yusuke, ever the outlier, ends up stuck with the Farmer class.

Forced to actually work with people for the first time in his life, Yusuke has to figure out how to turn his cold, calculating nature into an asset if he wants any of them to make it out alive. As new "rounds" of the game bring in more players and higher stakes, what starts as a fight for survival slowly becomes something much bigger.

Our Thoughts / Our Verdict

I'm Standing on a Million Lives sets itself apart from typical isekai fare by leaning hard into its game-show premise: real stakes, a genuinely unlikeable-at-first protagonist, and quests that get darker and more morally complicated as the series goes on.

Yusuke's cold, calculating personality is divisive by design, some viewers find his growth genuinely compelling, while others find him hard to root for early on. Maho Film's animation is solid without being flashy, and the pacing across the first season's four quests keeps things moving at a decent clip.

It's a reasonable pick for isekai fans looking for something with a bit more edge and moral ambiguity than the genre usually offers, even if it doesn't quite reach must-watch status. — DIDARUL ISLAM [Chief Editor]
