Nine years after the first season aired, Saga of Tanya the Evil II proves the wait was worth it. Studio Nut returns with a clear animation upgrade, and the escalating geopolitical stakes give the war more weight than ever, without losing the show's darkly comedic edge around Tanya's relentless self-interest.
Aoi Yuuki slides right back into Tanya's voice like no time has passed, and the expanding cast of nations and rivals keeps the strategic, chess-like feel of the series' battles intact. Early reception has been strong, and it's easy to see why.
