Synopsis
At the run-down Kasamatsu Training Center, tucked away from the spotlight of central racing, an Umamusume with an unheard-of running style shows up out of nowhere. Her name is Oguri Cap — an ash-grey girl written off by nearly everyone who sees her, since almost nobody from a regional training center ever makes it to the top.
But Oguri Cap doesn't run like anyone expects. Overturning every bit of racing common sense in her path, she starts tearing through regional competition, and it isn't long before the racing world can't ignore the "monster" from Kasamatsu anymore. Cinderella Gray might be the strongest entry the Umamusume franchise has produced yet. CygamesPictures clearly poured everything into this one — the race sequences are genuinely thrilling, full of weight and momentum, and Oguri Cap's underdog arc from an overlooked regional racer to a national phenomenon is paced with real patience and emotional payoff.
What elevates the show beyond "cute girls who race" is its rivalry writing — Oguri Cap and Tamamo Cross push each other in a way that feels earned rather than manufactured, and the show isn't afraid to sit in quieter, more emotional moments between the races. Even viewers with zero attachment to the mobile game or franchise will find themselves invested here.
Between the top-tier animation, a soundtrack that knows exactly when to swell, and one of the better sports narratives in recent anime, Cinderella Gray earns its hype. Highly recommended, whether you're a longtime Umamusume fan or coming in completely fresh.
