Synopsis
Kousei Arima was once a celebrated piano prodigy, until his mother's death left him unable to hear his own playing properly, driving him away from the piano entirely. Two years later, he's drifting through a colorless, uneventful life alongside his childhood friends Tsubaki and Ryota — until a chance meeting with a free-spirited violinist named Kaori Miyazono changes everything.
Kaori's bold, unconventional style of music and her fearless approach to life slowly start pulling Kousei back toward the piano he'd given up on. As he begins performing again, pushed forward by Kaori's presence, he has to confront painful memories of his mother, his own fear of the piano, and feelings for Kaori he's only beginning to understand — all while a bittersweet truth about her waits quietly in the background.

Very few anime manage to be this devastating and this beautiful at the same time. Your Lie in April uses Kousei and Kaori's music not just as a backdrop but as the actual language the story tells its emotions through — every performance means something, and A-1 Pictures' animation makes the piano and violin sequences feel genuinely alive, not just pretty visuals.
Masaru Yokoyama's score is one of the best in anime history, and the classical pieces the characters perform (Chopin, Saint-Saëns, Kreisler) are chosen with real intention behind them. The supporting cast — Tsubaki and Ryota especially — never feel like they exist purely to prop up the central romance either; their own arcs matter.
