Kirigaya Kazuto [きりがや かずと] - Sword Art Online

Kirito, whose real name is Kazuto Kirigaya, is the main hero of Sword Art Online. He's known as the Black Swordsman, and he's one of the most loved characters in anime — brave, skilled, and always willing to protect the people close to him.

Background

Kazuto lost his birth parents when he was very young and was raised by his aunt and uncle as their own son. Growing up, he tried kendo for a while but soon fell in love with computers and gaming instead — a passion that later helped him become a top player in Sword Art Online.

He was one of only 1,000 players chosen to test the game early, which gave him a big head start once the game officially launched.

Trapped in Sword Art Online

On launch day, Kirito and everyone else playing the game found out they were trapped inside — if you died in the game, you died in real life too. The only way out was to clear all 100 floors.

Because he was a beta tester, some players blamed him for not sharing tips. To protect others from getting blamed too, he called himself a "Beater," taking the insult on himself so his friends wouldn't have to.

Meeting Asuna

One of the biggest moments in Kirito's journey is meeting Asuna. She becomes his closest partner in battle, and later his girlfriend — someone who helps him grow stronger, both as a fighter and as a person.

Becoming the Black Swordsman

Kirito always fights in black clothing, and his sword skills are so impressive that people start calling him the Black Swordsman — a name that's both feared and respected across the game world.

After a tough loss in a duel, he joins a top guild called the Knights of the Blood Oath, where he plays a key role in the final battles of the game.

Clearing the Game

In the end, Kirito defeats Kayaba Akihiko, the man who trapped everyone inside the game, and saves thousands of players. This victory turns him into a true hero, both in the game and in the eyes of everyone who was trapped with him.
