Margin Kitagawa - My Dress Up Darling

Meet Marin Kitagawa — one of the brightest, most easy-to-love characters from My Dress-Up Darling! She's a cheerful, confident high schooler who's obsessed with cosplay and anime, and she never hides who she really is.

Unlike a lot of shy anime heroines, Marin wears her hobbies proudly, which is exactly why so many fans instantly connect with her.

Her friendship (and eventually romance) with Wakana Gojo — the quiet boy who dreams of becoming a hina doll craftsman — is one of the sweetest parts of her story.

Marin never once makes fun of his unusual passion; instead she cheers him on, and together they become an unstoppable cosplay duo: Marin brings the energy and acting, Wakana brings the craftsmanship.

Beyond the looks, what makes Marin special is how genuinely herself she stays — independent, caring, and refreshingly honest. She's become a fan favorite not just for her style, but for the message she carries: be yourself, chase what you love, and don't be afraid to show it.

Appearance

Marin is tall, slim, and always put-together. Her natural eyes are dark brown, but she usually wears dark-pink contacts. Her nails are long acrylics with a glossy bubblegum-pink finish, and her everyday makeup leans soft — peachy eyeshadow, glossy lips, and a light blush.

Her hair is blonde, fading into pink-red or citrus-orange tips, and falls all the way past her waist. She wears side-swept bangs that nearly hide her eyebrows, with two long strands framing her shoulders.

Depending on her mood, she switches things up with straight hair, a single ponytail, twin ponytails, a half-up bun, twin buns, a full bun, or a high ponytail.

Jewelry & Piercings

Marin has a real love for silver jewelry. Her ears are decorated with multiple piercings — captive bead rings in both lobes, round studs on each side, three piercings in her left ear, and a barbell industrial piercing. In the manga she also has a tongue piercing, though this detail was left out of the anime.

Clothing

School Uniform

A crisp white button-down with a chest pocket, a navy tie, a pleated plaid skirt, black socks, and brown shoes make up her school look.

She usually adds a black choker, an ankle bracelet on her left leg, and rings on her right pinky and index finger. When it gets colder, she layers a black V-neck sweater under a navy blazer and swaps in a red tie.

Casual Wear

Outside of school, her style swings between sweet-and-cute and bold-and-trendy — she always finds the perfect fit for the occasion.

Personality

Marin's personality is big, bright, and impossible to miss. She's energetic, a little scatterbrained, and sometimes disorganized — but when it really matters, she shows a surprisingly mature side.

As a hardcore cosplayer and otaku who loves magical-girl anime and adult-rated games, she treats cosplay as more than a hobby — it's her way of honoring the characters she loves. Out of respect, she'll even turn down cosplaying a character if she feels she can't do them justice.

She's outgoing, friendly, and rarely serious, and she can't stand people who mock others for their interests — she once shut down a guy who teased her for loving anime.

Part of why she admires Wakana so much is that he doesn't care what people think, and she's equally open about their friendship, happily hanging out with him in public without a hint of hesitation.

Underneath the carefree vibe, Marin has a strong moral compass. She speaks up against unfairness — like the time she told Wakana not to let his classmates walk all over him, encouraging him to be proud of his feelings instead of hiding them out of embarrassment.

She's also lovably clumsy. Her very first cosplay attempt turned into a disaster, but her determination and supportive friends helped her push through. That's pure Marin — never giving up, always believing in herself and others.
